Double9 | Tea and alcohol sexy dance
I bet you never drink tea like this before, neither did I and now I’m addicted! This next tea experience will make you change your mind and say hell no to boring scheduled tea times, wannabe tea houses, old cookies and awkward sipping silences. Instead, more fun, music, alcohol and irreverence will be added. Be ready.
Double9 is the 1st tea cocktail bar in Portugal. From my previous posts, you can tell I’m a huge fan of cocktails (guilty!) however I also do love and respect high quality teas. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, Double 9 claims to combine the best of these two worlds – signature cocktails and teas!
I was a bit sceptic about this concept to be honest (yet curious!) since both combined if (and only) in the correct formula could be the Holy Grail or a total mess! And… touché! A must try.
The idea was created by the advertising agency NORMAJEAN and the à la carte menu by the company Liquid Consulting. They offer 18 signature cocktails (each one costing 8,00€), all served by the hands of the high-skilled bartenders. You can feel their knowledge by the hands synchrony and body harmony while dealing with tubes, smoke, syrups, infusions, liquids, foams – an entire theatre play where you just have to watch and enjoy.
The cocktail below was exclusively created for Quintessential Portugal as a long lasting marriage between citric flavors and green tea – and it was called The Mandarin – poetry to my senses. It’s not on the menu but show this picture and they’ll do it for you.
Have you heard about their famous rubber duck? If not, don’t bother, it might appear on one of your tea-cocktails! And fight the temptation to bring it home with you as a souvenir.
For the ones looking exclusively for tea and no alcohol at all, won’t be disappointed since they have extremely high-quality teas and infusions for the price of 3,00€ per person or 4,00€ for two. My recommendations go for the Exclusive Blends such as the Anastasia (bergamot, lemon and orange blossom) and the Zoubrovka (scents of buffalo grass).
Don’t miss: Their one of a kind mussel escabeche (marinated in acidic juices) and going on a Friday or Saturday for an unbeatable double D – drink and dance!
Hot tip: After all this, still up for a beer? That’s fine too. Finish your drink and just ask them for O Purista, an extremely cool vintage bar / barber shop owned by them and located one street away. Just ask them and you might also get a new beard look.
