Bastardo @ TrenDestination

A Bastard afternoon tea

Let’s start with the name of this restaurant: Bastardo – meaning illigitimate child – unconventional and memorable. This will set the tone for your experience there.

This is one of my favorite places in Lisbon (I’ll share soon other of their tasty secrets… ) since it’s a well-kept off the beaten gem. More precisely, it’s located just in the heart of Lisbon downtown, on the 1st floor of the Internacional Design Hotel.

They offer a Tea Experience called The trip with Catarina de Bragança. Now you’re wondering who the hell is Catarina de Bragança and avoiding giving you a history lesson, she’s basically the Queen T(ea), responsible for introducing the beauties of tea from Asia in England, and (yes!) she’s Portuguese.

Bastardo is the perfect unconventional restaurant with an underground touch in Lisbon to have a unique tea moment, a pause from the crowd while enjoying a nice downtown view.

Be ready to choose, smell and taste your tea just like a sommelier would do because once you see the vintage car popping out, means that your experience is about to start.

Here’s Catarina de Bragança trip: 3 different types of fresh herbal infusions to choose from: thyme, mint and lemon balm. To complete the trip, they’ll serve you scones, quindins (coconut eggy Brazilian custard), banana and walnut mini cakes, bread toast, finger sandwich and a surprising hot goat cheese savory pastry (to die for).

If by this time, you’re still thinking: “all good but I hate tea”, don’t lose hope because you still have the chance to try some of the best pancakes in Lisbon (if not the best!). Fluffiness and mouth-watering are the key words.

In case you’re more coffee addicted, I recommend you to try their Cappuccino with crème brûlée foam – sweet and decadent in the right measure! If even coffee is not your cup of tea, go for their Classic spoon hot chocolate.

Don’t miss: Having a table by the window to enjoy the view.

Hot tip: Avoid going alone since the tea is only for two and costs 20,00€ in total (10,00€ per person) and afternoon snacks are only served until 7:00pm.
